Oct 5, 2019And even when James E Van Demark was sick, he never stopped inspiring. Van Demark, a life member, past president and chief engineer of Point Pleasant Fire Station 75, died on Tuesday, the fire department announced. "It is with deepest sorrow that the Point Pleasant Fire Department reports the passing of one of our greatest department mentors, past President James E. Van Demark," the department said. "Jim passed away alongside his family, peacefully, after a long, hard-fought battle with various medical issues." Van Demark served in many roles within the firehouse during his 42 years of service. Most notably, he was a trustee and the longest sitting president and chief engineer in department history. He was a charter member of Station 75. Prior to the merger of the stations, Van Demark held many roles at Point Pleasant Fire Company #1, Station 40. Van Demark is also father to Deputy Chief Drew Van Demark. The viewing will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, Route 88, in Brick on Friday, Oct. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Fireman's Service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home. There will be a procession to Saint Catherine's Cemetery in Sea Girt following the Fireman's Service. The Repass will be held at Station 75-1, 1210 Beaver Dam Road in Point Pleasant following the funeral.
